Ranked mode: how it works

Ranked is a race. You play one other player, or two teams of two play each other. Each side cleans its own yard, starting with no money and a small bag. Bars on screen show who is closer to 100%, and a win gives rank points.

Joining a match

  1. Go to the Ranked Arena in the lobby. Its signs say Complete House to unlock Ranked. MinBloodSugar, 0:00
  2. Step onto a glowing pad marked “Play Ranked!” and pick 1v1 or 2v2 with the − and + buttons. Gamer Chad, 0:24
  3. For 2v2, choose who can join your team: switch on Friends Only or tap Invite Friends!, then press Confirm. Friends Only limits who can join as your teammate. It does not choose your opponents. MinBloodSugar, 0:03
  4. Wait while it searches. To back out, press Cancel Search or jump. You can cancel until the match starts joining. After that, you and your team go into the same match. Gamer Chad, 0:27 MinBloodSugar, 0:09

1v1 and 2v2 share one Elo rating, so both kinds of match move the same rank. Gamer Chad, 0:24

What stays in the lobby

In a 1v1 the two yards are side by side, so you can look over the fence and see how the other player is doing. MinBloodSugar, 0:42

Money inside a match

How a match ends

The top left of your screen shows how clean each side’s yard is. Gamer Chad, 7:44 The goal is 100%: in the match Gamer Chad filmed, his side reached 98.6% and the win screen came up seconds later. Gamer Chad, 12:02 Gamer Chad, 12:11

A win shows WINNER and a number under Ranked. Both of his wins showed +15. Gamer Chad, 12:21 One of them came when the other player left before the end, and that still counted as a win. Gamer Chad, 0:59 Gamer Chad, 1:04

A loss shows LOSER while the game saves the result. MinBloodSugar, 1:45 Back in the lobby, the Ranked board lists the top players by Elo. Gamer Chad, 1:10

What worked in one win

Gamer Chad tried these while winning a 1v1. They are one player’s choices, not rules.

  • He bought the bigger bag early and said it saved a lot of walking back to the bin. Gamer Chad, 5:15
  • He cleaned the side with no vent by hand first, so the leaf blower would have less to push later. Gamer Chad, 5:56
  • He kept watching the other bar. The other side fell behind, then caught up fast, and he thinks that was the moment they bought a leaf blower. Gamer Chad, 8:50
